Chopard - 18k Onyx Dial - Signed Laykin et Cie - ref. 2036
It’s impossible to open Instagram these days and avoid seeing a precious metal integrated bracelet “geezer” watch with stone dial. They’re everywhere. Well here’s one you won’t see every day.
What we have here is a solid 18k yellow gold Chopard ref. 2036 made exclusively for the California retailer Laykin et Cie. What’s particularly interesting is the Laykin et Cie signature sits proudly at 12 o’clock. Taking precedence over Chopard’s own name. The dial is onyx and, like any yellow gold/onyx combo, offers that striking contrast we all crave. The dial is crack free yet there are a few micro hairlines to the top coat of gloss which can be observed only under 10 x magnification.
The bracelet on this watch is particularly alluring. It’s made up of solid 18k horizontal gadroons that stack one after another. The light play here is really very pretty. It’s reminiscent of Patek’s ref. 3649 but with the watch head oriented horizontally which is a unique look in and of itself. The watch is powered by a manual wind Chopard movement and dates to the 1970s. It weighs a hair under 100 grams in total and measures 7 ¾ inches long. It is accompanied by its original Laykin et Cie signed box and is ready to be enjoyed.
