Gallet - 1940’s Racine by Gallet

This 1940’s Racine by Gallet was sold a year or so back by Hodinkee, and somehow ended up in a Baltimore City thrift store.

The stainless steel Borgel case measures in at 28mm (without crown) x 35mm and still bears its original inner dust cover for the movement underneath its trademark (Taubert) decagonal caseback.

The full steel Borgel case is in nice conditions, likely touched up once or twice during its lifespan (it is around 80 years old after all) but is still in rather nice condition much like the dial.

The two tone dial catches the light beautifully and appears an even light color at some angles and a striking silver and frosted white in others.

The dial has been reprinted, but on some vintage pieces we don’t mind as much, as long as it’s well done and tasteful. We find the numerals and overall quality on this one to be perfectly suited for someone’s enjoyment for the next few decades.

It’s legible, clean, and bears those funky numerals while sitting beneath the lovely blued steel sword handset.

Inside runs a serviced manual wound Gallet signed movement with indirect center seconds, bearing the US import code for Gallet/Racine on the balance bridge. The Gallet caliber is clean and ready to keep time for its next caretaker.
