Breitling - 1940s Breitling 760 Premier Chronograph Solid Rose Gold Venus 175 Movement
For sale it is a very good condition 35.5mm 18 karat rose gold Breitling Premier Chronograph reference 760. The 760 is a 510,000 serial, circa mid to late 1940s production, and is not accompanied by box or papers.
The Premier features a solid rose gold case, which is accented by a fixed smooth bezel. The Breitling is mounted on a solid 14 karat rose gold brick bracelet, which was most likely fitted at the time of the watch's initial purchase and will comfortably fit a 7.10-inch wrist. The Premier retains its original silver dial with black Arabic numeral hour markers, blued hands, and sub dial registers at 3 and 9 o’clock. The movement used in the 760 is the manual wind Venus caliber 175, which is branded Wakmann, as they were the US based distributor / assembler of Breitling watches from approximately 1946 into the 1950s, and thus allowed the company to circumvent Import tariffs on assembled Swiss watches that were imported into the US.
Condition:
The case remains strong with even lugs and retains its original chamfers. The period correct brick bracelet is free of any serious wear, and will fit up to a 7.10 inch wrist. The dial has stood the test of time well with its text remaing intact with the only noticable imperfection being some surface level residue. The manual wind Venus 175 movement is running and the chronographs functions, but would benefit from an overhaul, as its last service date is unknown. Overall the Premier is in very good vintage condition, and is a wonderful well preserved example of an early reference 760 chronograph, which rarely retain their original dials.
