The Omega ref. 3903, more affectionately known as the "Cioccolatone", is an elegant and oversized early automatic timepiece. The nickname comes from the square shape of the case, and directly translates from Italian to "Chocolate" in English, as it resembles a square chocolate in its wrapper. There are a few other watches that bear this nickname, most notably the Vacheron Constantin ref. 4821, though similar shapes from Patek Philippe, Universal Geneve, and of course Omega have earned the "Cioccolatone" moniker as well.

Most of the ref. 3903 produced by Omega were in stainless steel with silver dials, making gold cased models a rarity, moreover, examples with black gilt dials are even more uncommon. Making this specific example cast in 14K yellow gold with a black gilt dial a truly rare opportunity and sight to behold.

CASE & BRACELET

The gorgeous and oversized square "Cioccolatone" 14K yellow gold case is exceptionally well preserved and has developed a charming rosy patina throughout, though this patina is most prominent next to the crown. The case retains all of its original geometry, angles, and dimensions, with no notable evidence of being previously polished present. The "flat foot" Omega crown appears to be correct, though could be an early replacement as the color tone of the crown is much lighter than the case. The case back is also in excellent condition, showing no notable wear. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The original glossy black gilt dial is truly stunning, featuring an attractive but subtle patina throughout, though no scratches or damage are present. The gold dauphine hands are in excellent condition and show minor oxidation. The subsidiary seconds hand completes the watch, adding a tasteful element of movement to the bottom portion of the dial.

None. The watch is functioning perfectly and keeping time, previous service history is unknown.
