Rolex - 1960 Rolex 5512 Gilt-Chapter Ring Exclamation Submariner
Description: The 5512 Gilt chapter-ring for most serious vintage Rolex collectors is a grail sub. These are one of the earliest Submariners to receive crown guards. The crown guards themselves also are pointed as opposed to the curved ones that replaced them shortly after this run. The lume is excellent and sits beautifully against a glossy black dial. There is slight patina on the gloss and this is rather normal and expected from this era of gilt. The gilt text that appears is actually the color of the dial as it is a negative relief. Hands are matching to the dial and the case has been previously lightly polished in the past. There is an exclamation point at the 6 o’clock position that is suspected to denote internally the switch and absence of radium to tritium. This is a beautiful grail Sub for any collector.
