Rolex - 1964 Rolex 1601 Datejust 36mm Solid 18kt Yellow Gold Dauphine Hands
For sale is an excellent condition 36mm solid 18-karat yellow gold Rolex Datejust. The 1601 is a 1,144,xxx serial, circa 1964 production, and is not accompanied by box or papers.
The Rolex features a yellow gold case with a fluted gold bezel, which have acquired a lovely, even, ‘rosy’ colored oxidation with age. The Datejust is mounted on an unworn, quick-release, Dark Teal Saffiano leather strap from Hide & Alloy, which is secured by a vintage gold tone Rolex tang buckle. The Rolex retains its original Pie-Pan dial and gold “Dauphine” hands. The Pie-Pan dial has developed a vivid patina over time, appearing mostly champagne-colored with sporadic silver spots. The tritium lume plots and hands have acquired an orangish-gold patina with age. The movement used in the 1601 is the Rolex Caliber 1560, which is running smoothly.
Condition:
The case has been well-preserved, with thick even lugs, while the bezel flutes remain extremely sharp and well-defined. The tritium lume plots on the dial are still present, although a few have deteriorated slightly. The lume on the hands however, remains intact. The lume on both the dial and hands reacts correctly under UV. The acrylic was recently replaced and is free of any wear or imperfections.
Overall, the Rolex is in excellent vintage condition and is a beautiful example of a solid 18 karat gold reference 1601 Datejust with rarely seen original Dauphine hands.
