Rolex - 1972 Rolex 1807 Day-Date Bark President Matte Blue Pie Pan Dial OEM Factory 12 Diamond Bezel
For sale is an excellent condition 36mm 18 karat yellow gold Rolex Day-Date Bark “President”. The 1807 is a 3,205,xxx serial, circa 1972 production, and bears an engraving on its caseback with the name of its original owner, but is not accompanied by box or papers.
The Rolex features a brushed yellow gold case, which is accented by a factory set gold 12 diamond bark finish bezel from a reference 18108 Day-Date, which was fitted upon special request at some point after the 1807’s initial purchase. The Day-Date is mounted on its original first generation concealed clasp yellow gold bark finish President bracelet, which contains a production stamp from the fourth quarter of 1972. The President bracelet contains 21 full size links (6 screw links), and will comfortably fit a 7.25 inch wrist. The Rolex features a gorgeous matte blue “Pie-Pan” minute track dial with applied gold index hour markers, polished gold tritium coated hands, a magnified date window aperture at 3 o’clock, and a day window aperture at 12 o’clock. The tritium lume plots and hands have developed a wonderful custard colored patina with age, which is even in color. The movement used in the 1807 is the Rolex Caliber 1556, which features approximately 42 hours of power reserve.
Condition:
The case has been preserved well and retains evenly thick lugs, while the bark finish on the bezel remains crisp and well defined. The bark President bracelet contains minimal stretch for its age, while the coronet on the clasp remains crisp and well defined. The original matte blue dial has been preserved exceptionally well and is free of any noticeable imperfections, while the lume plots remain fully present with little to no degradation, with the lume on the hands remaining free of any imperfections. Overall, the Rolex is in excellent vintage condition and is a wonderful example of a matte dial 1807 Day-Date, with the only imperfection being some nominal wear on the surface of its acrylic crystal. Additionally, the OEM factory diamond bezel from a reference 18108 Day-Date is a distinctive evocation of a bygone era when different factory bezels could be fitted during a factory service or upon request at an authorized retailer.
