Rolex - 1977 ref. 6263 “Big Red” Daytona
With the signature “Big Red” text, black acrylic tachometer bezel, and chunky screw down pushers, the 6263 is considered the blueprint for all modern Daytonas. Rolex made many variants of the 4-digit Daytonas from the Pre-Daytona Dato-Compax to exotic Paul Newman dials, but this Big Red, black with silver contrasting sundials, is the version that we associate with the marquee. This cosmograph comes excellent with long, thick lugs. These pushers have been replaced with service parts as the original gaskets were a problematic source of water intrusion. Partial lume loss at 3 and 5 o’clock is common, but this watch is an otherwise fantastic find.
