1979 Rolex Sea-Dweller "Great White" (Ref. 1665) Mk. III Dial

While the first few prototype ref. 1665 Sea-Dweller models featured a single red line of text, the typeface design was quickly altered to feature two lines of red text, these models are most commonly referred to as "double red Sea-Dwellers". However, the Rolex Sea-Dweller ref. 1665 the dial configuration was updated in 1977. This new dial configuration is often named the "Great White" as the two lines of red text were removed and replaced with a single, but very bold line of white text that simply reads "Sea-Dweller"

The Sea-Dweller was undoubtedly the most advanced among the diving watches of its time, and the model remains at the forefront of advancement today.

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent case retains full and symmetrical lugs that have been polished in the past and exhibit subtle signs of honest use. The Mk III "thin font" bezel exhibits minimal wear and features a subtle fade with the tritium pearl intact and matching to the dial patina. The case back retains the factroy engravings in deep and legible condition. The Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 end pieces was sourced with the watch and is era-correct. The bracelet retains 10 links that show light stretch and will fit up to a 7-inch wrist.

DIAL & HANDS

The original matte black Mk III dial is in flawless condition, exhibiting no age or damage. The tritium lume plots have achieved a vivid yellow patina and exhibit no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The original hands were previously professionally restored to match the dial. The metallic date wheel is original with "open" 6's and 9's.

None. The watch is keeping time, the previous service history is unknown. A movement service can be provided upon request.
