Other - 1979 Stämmeschau Belp Award Watch
This super 70’s unbranded wristwatch brings together some of our favorite parts of the vintage watch world.
Tidy design, quality parts, a spot of patina, and a fun story.
The blue dial has grown a wonderful patina very similar to those on many blue sigma dials we see on the market (although this one is signed T Swiss T), with wonderful gold curlicues forming evenly across the dial.
The sunburst grained steel case is in very sharp conditions and was made by Bouille a known but not super common Swiss case manufacturer.
Inside runs a manual wound unbranded Fontainemelon Cal. 96-4, a reliable and sturdy swiss Ebauche caliber and part of the ESA family.
The cherry on top is the dial signature at 12.
Stämmeschau translates roughly to “Livestock Show” and seems to be most commonly used in the German speaking cantons of Switzerland. As shown by the website, and seen in our research the most common livestock to compete in these shows appear to be Rabbits! 🐇🐇
Although the term is used for all manner of livestock we like to believe this piece was part of the prize given to the folks who bred the most elegant bunny in the 1979 show held in the town of Belp.
A clean and robust watch, with lovely dial patina, and a great story behind it.
