1980s LeJour Chronograph 'Factory PVD' (Ref. 7750) "Top Gun" W/ Box & Papers

Heuer manufactured LeJour chronographs under a private-label arrangement in the 1980s. Under the terms of the arrangement, Heuer manufactured an array of watches which LeJour then distributed. Some, like the Heuer Pasadena and LeJour model 7750, used the exact same cases. If this watch looks familiar to you, it's with good reason - LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, played by Tom Cruise in the hit movie "Top Gun", wears a very similar example made by Orfina and branded under Porsche design.

Both the Heuer and the other references, like this LeJour, used the Day-Date Chronograph Valjoux 7750, which is how it got its reference name. Orfina produced some of these references in stainless steel, but most of the sub-branded manufacturers chose to stick with the early black PVD steel case.

CASE & BRACELET

The unpolished case features its original factory PVD finish, featuring crisp edges throughout. The only notable element of age of the case is some subtle greying to the finish on the edges, which is commonly found on early PVD cases. The original mineral glass crystal does show wear and scratches. The case retains its original PVD-finished pump pushers and unsigned crown. The original LeJour bracelet does exhibit some loss of the factory PVD finishing, mostly on the underside of the individual links, and retains 14 links that show minor stretch and will fit up to a 7.25-inch wrist.

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black dial is in excellent condition, with the only notable element of age being some tonal marks near the center of the handstack that are only visible under magnification. The tritium lume plots have achieved a deep beige patina, under UV light inspection, the 5 o'clock plot features minor degradation, while all the others remain fully intact. The original tritium hands have aged a few shades lighter than the dial, and show no degradation when inspected under UV light.

ACCESSORIES

The watch comes as a complete set with its original inner and outer boxes, instruction booklets, and sales tags. The watch is running and keeping time, previous service history is unknown,
