2024 Tudor Black Bay 54 (Ref. 79000N) "True Patina Mod" W/ Box, Papers, & Original Parts

As a follow-up to the immensely successful 2018 Black Bay 58 release, Tudor took the vintage elements even further with the Black Bay 54 by reaching deeper into their rich catalog of past models for inspiration.

With the straight text lines, non-hash bezel insert, reduced case proportions, and a smaller crown, the inspiration for the Black Bay 54 is clear, the ref. 7923 Tudor Submariner which was introduced in 1954. Known as a "Small Crown" Submariner which features more svelte proportions compared to the also iconic "Big Crown" Subs, and this also remains true for the Black Bay 54 and 58. In the world of vintage watches, the ref. 7923 has become one of the most elusive and collectible watches to come from the brand, with only 15 examples known to exist today.

Watchmaker and collector Greg Patronzi (@true_patina on Instagram), wasn't satisfied with the Black Bay 54 being a close but updated reimagining of the vintage ref. 7923, so he took matters into his own hands, literally. By using his knowledge and skills as a watchmaker, he manufactured new hands that perfectly resemble the pencil-style hands and lollipop seconds hand of the original design, swapped the crystal out for an acrylic "super-domed" crystal, and changed the luminous pearl in the bezel to be in the style of a vintage watch. The result was so highly praised by the community that individual collectors began reaching out with requests for him to modify their own Black Bay 54s, to which he obliged. Of course, the watch still has all of its original parts should the next owner want to restore it to its original state. However, we feel that this version, with these few modifications, achieves the full "cool factor" potential of the Black Bay 54.

CASE & BRACELET

The unpolished case exhibits nominal signs of previous use. The bezel is in perfect condition, showing no wear or age. The Tudor Oyster-style rivet bracelet has no stretch and retains 12 links, fitting up to a 7 1/2-inch wrist. The watch comes with two more separate links in its set to make for a fully linked bracelet.

DIAL & HANDS

The original dial is flawless. The modified hands with matching lume are flawless.

ACCESSORIES

The watch is a complete set, with its original inner and outer boxes, Tudor warranty card, hang tag, and booklets. The set also includes all of the original parts for the watch to restore it to the original factory state.
