Other - 60’s Diarex Disco Volante Wood & Silver

A wonderfully funky 60’s Diarex branded wrist watch, in a rosewood and .800 silver case.

The vignette crosshair dial has the perfect mix of elegance and simplicity with its vignette gradient greyscale and white crosshair/text.

The white stick hands above the brushed grey scale dial contrast wonderfully and are accented by the white dial printing.

.800 silver was common in certain parts of Europe, specifically in Germany where this case was made.

This piece features some great examples of our favorite part of precious metal watches: the hallmarks

RW indicates RoWi, a storied German bracelet manufacturer.
The crescent moon & crown (Halbmond und Reichskrone) signifies German origin/destination silver with a fineness of at least 80% followed by the .800 stamp to specify the fineness. Finally the Swiss Gentiane 2 showing a piece of .800 silver was assayed once imported into Switzerland, indicating it was made in German and imported to Switzerland.

Along with the .800 silver, the most notable detail about the case is the wood component. Made of rosewood it seamlessly combines the organic textures of wood with the elegance of silver.

Coming in at 43mm it is truly a jumbo 60’s piece, and the 22mm fixed lugs ensure the band is proportional to the large case size.

The watch comes with both the brown and grey pass through straps, the brown to accent the rosewood and the grey to accent the dial.

From the side it truly does look like a UFO/disco volante (flying saucer)
