Other - 60’s Silver Tank Cintrée Anonymous Dial
This piece and it’s close relatives are quite intriguing, and a bit mysterious in terms of their provenance and manufacturer.
Given the formatting of the reference number it is consistent with the Bueche Girod pieces of the same case style and construction, including two models sold at the Jerry Lewis Estate Auction not too long ago.
With this, the .800 silver curvex case is in the tank Cintree Alongee style and proportions, very close to the measurements of the Thomas Crown Affair Cintree worn by Steve McQueen.
The case measures 18x43mm (without crown) and is in remarkably sharp conditions with some patination beginning to appear on the brushed 3/9’ sides.
Inside runs an unsigned manual wound ETA 2412 movement, the same used in many Cartier and Bueche Girod watches of the era.
The sterile dial is a proper eggshell finish in both color and texture and is nicely contrasted by the raised black roman roman printing and short black handset.
The crown is signed with the Matthey Tissot logo, the same as at least 2 other examples of this piece to have come to market. It is possible it was produced for MT, as other examples of this reference have been seen signed by more niche brands such as Ruser.
Whether a fan of Cartier’s Cintree, Bueche Girod’s avant-garde case design, or just funky tank models this piece exudes class with its refined design.
