Audemars Piguet - Audemars Piguet Star Wheel | Rare | 18k Gold | 25720 | Engraved Dial
1655 - ROME, ITALY : As the sun set over the Vatican, church bells echoed across the Apostolic Palace where Pope Alexander VII cast a tired glance at a clock on his table! Disturbed by the loud tick, he complained to his Cardinal who approached a clockmaker firm run by Giuseppe and Matteo Campani.
Seeking inspiration from the theory of planetary motion, the duo worked, meticulously crafting the workings of their creation - an astronomical clock like no other. The resulting "silent escapement" connected a short pendulum to the escapement in a way that allowed it to rotate without interruption or noise.
LE BRASSUS, SWITZERLAND : Launched in 1991 and inspired by the Campani clock, the Audemars Piguet ref. 25720BA "Star Wheel" shows time via three sapphire disks that rotate along the top of the dial. Each sapphire disk passes over the minute track, displaying the hour as it moves across; highlighting the cyclical nature of time as influenced by the sun's movement across the sky.
Produced in extremely limited quantities and only in precious metal, this icon is presented here as one of the model’s best examples with the unique and much rarer hand-engraved guilloche dial.
