Cartier - Cartier 1990s Tank Chinoise | Enamel | Limited Edition | Complete Set
With a yellow gold case, hand-applied black and red enamel and whimsical Chinese-styled Arabic numbers set on a frosted dial — this rare Tank Chinoise has a bold design that likely turned heads in the traditional world at Cartier.
The watch belonged to a mysterious collector, a legend in the Middle East. Known for his impeccable taste, he had never once parted with a single piece. Yet, this Tank Chinoise, with its unique numerals and a single diamond set within its crown, had somehow found its way onto our radar and we wanted it.
The Art Deco Cartier Tank Chinoise, first introduced in the 1920s, was a distinguished member of the iconic Tank watch family. Inspired by ancient Chinese temples, the iconic rectangular case featured bold interlocking lines; reflecting Cartier's commitment to infusing design into horological precision.
And then there was that enamel! Enamelling, a time-honored craft, involved the delicate fusion of powdered glass onto metal, creating a lustrous, jewel-like surface; turning each watch into the sublime.
