In the horological realm, where timepieces become artifacts of history, the Cartier Baignoire emerges as a captivating narrative. Its genesis can be traced back to an design bestowed upon Russian Grand Duchess Pavlovna by the visionary Louis Cartier in 1912. However, it wasn't until 1957 that this exquisite creation embraced the limelight, christened with the evocative ‘baignoire’ moniker - a nod to its graceful contours reminiscent of a bathtub.
Drawing inspiration from the traditional round watch archetype, the Baignoire artfully stretches and curves, crafting a silhouette that exudes elegance. Paired with a slender strap discreetly tucked beneath the case, the Baignoire achieves the illusion of a watch floating atop the wrist. Cased in 18k yellow gold and measuring a refined 31 x 22 mm, this vintage Baignoire can be worn by both women and men and can be seen as the ultimate unisex watch. This particular example deviates from the conventional Baignoire by incorporating an additional concave band, known as a 'gadroon,' encircling the glass. The result is a double stepped case that adds a layer of intrigue.
This Cartier Baignoire ref 78094 in yellow gold is in overall fantastic vintage condition. The oval case is strong and its unique double stepped bezel is in fantastic condition. The case has light scratches throughout but for a Cartier from this era, the case is in excellent condition. The dial is the original Paris signed white lacquered dial which is very rare given most dials get replaced by Cartier during servicing to a "Swiss only" dial. The vast majority of Cartier white lacquered dials produced in the 70's forms cracks and this one also has some slight cracks throughout the dial but nothing major. There are no blemishes or discoloration on the dial and it is overall clean for its age. The original black painted numerals is in beautiful condition. The watch was serviced by the previous owner back in 2022 and is running well. The watch comes as a full set with its original Cartier box, certificate of guarantee, certificate booklet, and papers. The watch also comes with its original black Cartier leather strap that was used by the previous owner and is in worn condition. We have also included a new generic blue calf strap along with a Cartier gold plated pick buckle.
