Cartier - Cartier Riviera

Sunrise at Côte d'Azur.

As the sun rises over the Mediterranean, the Cartier Riviera on your wrist mirrors the elegance of the Côte d'Azur. Introduced in the late 1970s as part of the Louis Cartier Collection, this model emerged during the height of the quartz crisis, yet Cartier chose to celebrate its heritage by continuing to produce luxurious mechanical watches. Powered by the hand-wound Caliber 107, the watch’s ultra-thin 18K yellow gold case offers a slim and elegant profile.

Paired with a sleek black leather strap, the gold case contrasts beautifully with the black Roman numerals and chemin de fer minute track on the dial. Collectors cherish the “PARIS” signature on the dial, a nod to its prestigious origin from Cartier’s Parisian boutique. The beaded crown, adorned with a sapphire cabochon, pays homage to Cartier’s jewelry roots. Unlike many of Cartier’s rectangular designs, the Riviera stands out with its rare round case, evoking the refined and modest sizing of gentleman’s watches from that era.

Whether enjoying a tranquil morning by the sea or in the heart of the city, the Cartier Riviera epitomizes quiet elegance and timeless sophistication.

**Condition**

The watch is in good condition for its age. The case lines are intact, with some light hairline scratches throughout. The hallmarks on the case back are sharp, and the dial has aged with light signs of spidering, which is expected of these vintage lacquered dials, visible under a loupe. The glass and sapphire cabochon are in excellent condition, while the leather strap is in great shape. The gold-plated Cartier buckle has some light peeling.
