Cartier - Cartier Tank Basculante 2391

The Tank Basculante is a watch that needs no introduction. It was introduced in 1933, during an era when watches with reversible cases were becoming popular for protecting delicate dials. Following the JLC Reverso, the Tank Basculante was also designed to turn its case to protect its dial, the main difference being that the Reverso pivoted horizontally within the case while the Basculante turned over its vertical axis. This allowed it to stand upright in mid-turn and function as a table clock.

This particular example is one of the more coveted iterations of the Tank Basculante. The Ref. 2391 was part of the iconic Collection Privée Cartier Paris (CPCP), distinguished by its signature guilloché paris signed dial and ultra-slim, manually wound cal 060 movement. Adding to its uniqueness, this example features a special engraving on the case back, commemorating the turn of the millennium. It is part of the exclusive “Millennium Collection Privée” and is limited to just 365 pieces over three years, as inscribed with the years 1999-2000-2001 on the case back.

This Cartier Tank Basculante 2391 is in great condition, with minor signs of wear. It comes with its original alligator strap and deployant buckle, as well as its signature red Cartier box from the CPCP period.
