Other - Concord Delirium Mariner

" Say hello to my little friend ..." Not a weapon, but a legendary watch: the Concord Delirium Mariner, seen on Tony Montana’s wrist in Scarface. A symbol of bold style and radical Swiss watchmaking, it captures a turning point in horological history.

At the height of the “quartz crisis,” Concord joined forces with ETA, Ebauches SA, Piguet SA, and Audemars Piguet to deliver a technological shockwave. The result: the Delirium I, measuring just 1.98 mm thick, then the world’s thinnest watch. This record was made possible by an engineering revolution: the case itself served as the movement’s base plate, eliminating the traditional caseback. Patented in just six months, this architecture marked a historic leap in mechanical design.
This radical approach—streamlining structure, fusing form and function—would later inspire the philosophy behind Swatch. But where Swatch aimed for accessible mass production, the Delirium was pure elitism: an ultra-thin statement of luxury and innovation.

The Mariner model shown here is one of the rarest. A 25 mm case in solid 18K yellow gold, a minimalist dial with no indices, striking black hands, and an integrated rigid bracelet—it’s sculptural, almost futuristic. This very configuration was famously worn by Al Pacino as Tony Montana, securing its place as a pop culture icon.

But the Delirium was more than just a style piece. It was a statement of defiance: Swiss watchmaking proving it could still lead through bold innovation. Under the vision of Gerry Grinberg, Concord—then a subsidiary of Movado—repositioned Swiss luxury on the global stage.

Today, the Delirium stands as a hybrid of cinematic legend and technical marvel. A rare masterpiece that continues to embody an era, a mindset, and the relentless pursuit of precision.
