Cartier - CPCP Tank à Vis Dual Time | 18k White Gold | Ref 2552

The early 2000s marked a turning point for Cartier. In the aftermath of the quartz crisis, a tumultuous era that saw mechanical watchmaking nearly eclipsed by electronics, Cartier sought to reclaim its rightful throne as a pioneer of craftsmanship.

Then emerged the Collection Privée Cartier Paris (CPCP), a homage to Cartier’s golden age. The collection, launched in 1998, was a celebration of their most iconic designs, to help reiterate its dominance over horology. But CPCP was more than just a revival; it was Cartier’s renaissance which paired timeless aesthetics with the pinnacle of mechanical movements crafted by luminaries such as Piaget, JLC, F.P Journe’s THA and Frederic Piguet.

The Tank à Vis, unveiled as part of this collection, is inspired by the historic Tank Étanche of 1931 and retains the Tank lineage. The distinctive bezel, secured by visible screws at each corner, enhances water resistance and lends architectural presence to the design.

The signature ivory dial is adorned with Cartier’s vintage rose guilloche pattern. Black Roman numerals sit across its surface, while blued steel hands sweep in vivid contrast. At its core lies the innovative split-dial, a dual time complication that tells two stories at once; perfect for both the cosmopolitan traveler.

The heartbeat of this mechanical marvel is the Calibre 9901MC, an 18-jewel movement crafted on a Piaget ebauche. Each detail, from the placement of the screws to the subtle “Cartier Paris” inscription, speaks of a time when watchmaking was an art form and not an industry.
