Cartier - CPCP Tank a Vis Wandering Hours | 18k Gold | Ref 2553

The Ref. 2553, with the wandering hours complication, is not a watch you glance at but one you study, one that tells time not with urgency but with grace. The layout is classic Cartier: minimal, refined and profoundly creative. The guilloché dial adds a layer of texture that feels as tactile as it is visual.

The movement, a caliber developed by THA Ébauche, a collaboration of horological giants like Vianney Halter, FP Journe and Denis Flageollet, is the kind of craftsmanship that belongs in the annals of watchmaking history.

For those unfamiliar, the Collection Privée Cartier Paris (or CPCP) range was Cartier’s love letter to its own legacy, a rebirth in the aftermath of the quartz crisis that had shaken the watch world to its core. Launched in the late 1990s, it was Cartier’s bold declaration that it was not just a purveyor of jewelry but a legitimate force in haute horology.

These CPCP pieces were painstakingly crafted in very limited quantities, and yet, remain criminally underrated. Perhaps it’s because Cartier has always been more associated with elegance than with technical prowess.

With the relaunch of the Tank Guichet at Watches and Wonders in 2025, the tide seems to be turning. The Ref. 2553, in particular, feels ripe for rediscovery.
