IWC Schaffhausen - Der Fliegerchronograph 3706 Full Set Tritium
THE archetype for the pilot's chronograph, and one IWC still references and pays homage to today, Der Fliegerchronogrph is pure neo-vintage tool watch! I absolutely love these, and this is a good one, with excellent tritium patina, a strong case, running perfectly, AND it's a full set.
Case: The 39 x 42 x 14.5 mm case feels perfectly proportioned for this watch and so well executed (certainly leagues ahead of the inflated proportions of today's renditions). The case is very clean throughout, only exhibiting minor surface scratches. It appears to be have lightly polished in the past, but still retains well defined, clear, polished chamfers, which are so often polished out on these. The watch also includes the coveted original fish crown.
Dial: Excellent matte black dial with matching tritium hour and minute hands. This is one of the earlier executions with the tritium dots at the hour markers. Under a loupe, the 8 o'clock plot appears to have lost some of it's lume, but the base of it is still present, meaning this is really only noticeable through magnification.
Movement: The venerable workhorse Valjoux 7750 was serviced by IWC in February 2022 and is running approximately +/- 3s per day with all functions operations correctly and smoothly.
Includes: Outer box, inner box, document envelope, manual, guarantee, service booklet, card dated June 16, 1995, signed IWC pin buckle, and very complementary IWC textured strap that has a sweat resistant leather backing.
I always keep an eye out for these because I love having them and wearing them, and this is a good one!
