Hamilton - Hamilton Khaki Field w/ Avirex Signed Dial - Box & Booklet - Rare
Hamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, PA and today remains one of the most important watch brands with American roots. Many collectors would consider their military contracts a crucial aspect of their success and relevance having provided "GI" (general issue) models for the U.S. and other countries, notably for the Vietnam and Gulf War.
By the 1980s there was a clear demand for a civilian model which Hamilton answered with the release of the "Khaki" field watch collection. These models had only few changes from their military siblings, achieving great popularity for their simple and "no frills" design language and robust ETA movements. Eventually, Hamilton would go on to release some co-signed dials with notable outfitters from L.L. Bean, Orvis, REI and more. We've long believed these are special pieces of horological Americana, given their double signatures. One might even call the L.L. Bean "the Tiffany & Co of Maine."
This particular example on offer is co-branded with Avirex winged logo. Avirex was founded by pilot Jeff Clyman in 1975. The brand began by selling U.S. Government surplus pilot jackets and similar to brand like L.L. Bean and Orvis offered mail order catalogs. The Avirex Hamilton is a rare bird today and this piece happens to be in fantastic vintage condition with a nicely patina'd dial/hands. Offered with its correct strap, box, bag and booklet, this is a collector set not to be missed.
