Hamilton - Hamilton Khaki Field w/ L. L. Bean Signed Dial
Hamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, PA and today remains one of the most important watch brands with American roots. Many collectors would consider their military contracts a crucial aspect of their success and relevance having provided "GI" (general issue) models for the U.S. and other countries, notably for the Vietnam and Gulf War.
By the 1980s there was a clear demand for a civilian model which Hamilton answered with the release of the "Khaki" field watch collection. These models had only few changes from their military siblings, achieving great popularity for their simple and "no frills" design language and robust ETA movements. Eventually, Hamilton would go on to release some co-signed dials with notable outfitters from L.L. Bean, Orvis, REI and more. We've long believed these are special pieces of horological Americana, given their double signatures. One might even call the L.L. Bean "the Tiffany & Co of Maine."
This example features spring bars as opposed to fixed bars so it is possible to potentially mount on a leather or canvas strap if needed. It has remained in excellent vintage condition with a nicely preserved dial/hands showing warm tritium patina. We've paired it with a discontinued Phoenix NATO-style strap so it’s ready to the next adventure.
Dial: Excellent overall with warm patina and all tritium plots still present.
Hands: Are matching and all of their lume is stable. Case: Normal signs of use consistent with age. Correct signed crown.
Crystal: Some light scratches that could be polished off if the next owner so chooses. No cracks.
Accessories: The ultimate piece of horological Americana.
The movement is running well on our timegrapher and comes with our 1-year mechanical warranty.
