Hamilton - Hamilton Khaki Field w/ REI Signed Dial
Hamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, PA and today remains one of the most important watch brands with American roots. Many collectors would consider their military contracts a crucial aspect of their success and relevance having provided "GI" (general issue) models for the U.S. and other countries, notably for the Vietnam and Gulf War.
By the 1980s there was a clear demand for a civilian model which Hamilton answered with the release of the "Khaki" field watch collection. These models had only few changes from their military siblings, achieving great popularity for their simple and "no frills" design language and robust ETA movements. Eventually, Hamilton would go on to release some co-signed dials with notable outfitters from L.L. Bean, Orvis, REI and more. We've long believed these are special pieces of horological Americana, given their double signatures. One might even call the L.L. Bean "the Tiffany & Co of Maine."
This particular quartz example features a lovely and endearing REI logo on its dial, a date aperture and large lollipop end to its seconds hand. The single pass strap happens to be original and what these were delivered with from factory. It remains in excellent vintage condition with a nicely preserved dial/hands showing warm patina. This piece would make a fantastic conversation piece for any outdoors enthusiast.
