Jaeger-LeCoultre - JAEGER-LECOULTRE ETRIER YELLOW GOLD AND IVORY
Among Jaeger-LeCoultre’s lesser-known yet strikingly elegant creations is the Etrier, a watch that embodies the brand’s commitment to sophisticated design and mechanical innovation.
The name Etrier, meaning "stirrup" in French, reflects its equestrian inspiration. Its distinctive case shape, reminiscent of a stirrup, sets it apart from conventional rectangular or round designs. Some Italian collectors have even renamed it Lucchetto due to its resemblance to a small lock. Over the years, many variations of the Etrier have been produced, but this particular version is undoubtedly one of the rarest and most beautiful.
This Jaeger-LeCoultre Etrier is especially rare, as it was one of the very few manufactured in yellow gold and ivory. Creating such a masterpiece was an extraordinary challenge for artisans of the time, given the delicate nature of ivory. Each ivory piece is individually attached to the gold chain, resulting in a visually stunning jewel-watch. The timepiece features a hidden opening mechanism discreetly integrated by into one of the ivory segments.
The watch is in outstanding condition, still retaining its original factory finishes with no signs of polishing on the case. The dial is pristine, showing no aging—an unusual feature for a non-waterproof watch of this era. The most delicate element, the ivory, remains remarkably well-preserved, with virtually no signs of wear or damage. This level of preservation enhances the desirability of this exceptional piece, making it a true collector’s treasure.
