Jaeger-LeCoultre - LNOS LeCoultre Aristocrat L “Grasshopper”
The LeCoultre Aristocrat, nicknamed “The Grasshopper” due to its funky case design is one of LeCoultre’s groovier mid century designs.
This piece bears all its original parts including the signed strap, 12k GF buckle and signed hangtag.
Unfortunately all it is missing is it's original box.
Inside is a LeCoultre 490/BW manual wound movement.
If you look closely at the tag, you'll notice Vacheron Constantin is named as one of the makers.
This may seem odd, but upon closer inspection of the movement the balance bridge is signed "VXN" the import mark for Vacheron. A fun piece of early 20th century watch history in the realm of "Duty Dodgers" or “Tariff tricks" See also the last picture for an old advertisement showing both sizes of the Aristocrat model, as well as the VC labeling on the ad.
The funky "grasshopper" case is 10k F, made in the US, and measures 18.7mm wide @ 12' and tapers a bit to 17.6mm @ 6' and is 27.7mm Lug to Lug, with approx 13mm lugs.
With it's untouched inner case back and overall conditions it is assumed it has never been serviced, but it is running well.
