Mido - Mido Radiateur

Mido developed its famous driver’s watches in 1925 and 1926 and patented these watch cases and certain dials inspired by the automobiles of the era, notably Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Hispano-Suiza, Rolls-Royce, and Talbot.

This Mido watch is one of the brand’s icons, a gold-plated wristwatch from the 1930s designed in the shape of a car radiator grille. The asymmetrical case measures 25 x 37 mm, features hinged lugs topped with a blank crest, and bears on the back the inscriptions “MIDO. Swiss Made. Gold Plated. DEPOSE.” The winding crown is shaped like a radiator cap. The grey dial, manufactured by Stern Frères in Geneva, resembles a radiator grille with painted Arabic numerals and gilt Breguet-style hands. The watch is powered by a 10 ½ ligne mechanical movement with 15 jewels and 3 adjustments. Case, dial, and movement are signed MIDO. It is fitted with a leather strap and original pin buckle.
