Omega - Omega Constellation Electroquartz ref.196.005 with caliber 1300 f8192Hz CEH « Beta21 » base
We are not going to tell once again the story of the Beta 21, nor how the Helvetic industry, caught in a wind of panic, came together to create the first Swiss quartz caliber.
What we can retain from this historic moment is the way how, this somewhat desperate reaction, forced each of them to stand out with shapes and designs that were in complete rupture from what they used to do.
Among the most radical designs , we especially remember this Omega Constellation Electroquartz and its massive « pupitre » case, its crown on the left side and its dial with no indexes.
The example here is in perfect functional condition. It still has its factory sticker on the caseback as well as the original shark strap with it’s adjustable signed clasp.
A collector’s item, a museum watch, witness to a historic moment, cornerstone of contemporary Swiss watchmaking history.
