Panerai - Panerai Mare Nostrum 5218-301/A
Introducing the Officine Panerai Mare Nostrum chronograph: A resurrection of historical mastery
Delving into the annals of Panerai history, the Officine Panerai Mare Nostrum chronograph bears witness to timeless craftsmanship and historical significance. Initially designed in 1943 for officers of the Italian navy, its course was abruptly interrupted by the war. Only three prototypes were built, and their existence was forgotten until an unexpected rediscovery rejuvenated the legend of the Mare Nostrum.
In 1993, with the revival of the Officine Panerai brand, the Mare Nostrum was reborn, bearing the unique designation "Pre Vendome". Only 1,828 Panerai watches bore this mark, signifying pieces created before the acquisition by the "Vendome" conglomerate in 1997. Powered by a hand-wound mechanism similar to that of its original prototype, this timepiece embodies a blend of historical lineage and modern precision.
The Mare Nostrum you see today, with reference PAM008, dates from 1997. Its impeccable condition and unique origin make it a sought-after jewel for collectors.
