Patek Philippe - Patek Philippe Calatrava 2451J w/ Breguet Numerals - Archive papers
The Patek Philippe Calatrava stands as a testament to one of the most esteemed watch designs from the 20th century, with its origins dating back to the 1930s, commencing with the iconic ref. 96. Many collectors consider the 96 to be the blueprint dress watch as it influenced countless other designs to follow it within Patek and other brands' offerings. Although its case is just 30.5mm these pieces are are deceptive to many and wear larger than one might expect, due to their long lug architecture. The ref. 2451 was introduced in '49 and share's the same case width as a 96 with the added benefit of a screw down and "waterproof" caseback.
This particular example is a very special and rare find given that it's fitted with applied Breguet numerals. Any "true vintage" Patek will have a special aura to it that can't be replicated in later iterations and the addition of these numerals takes it to another level of beauty. Adding to its provenance is and archive extract, dated to '51 confirming the Breguet dial. This piece has remained in nice vintage condition overall. The dial has been cleaned, as with the vast majority of examples in this era. There is some wear around the outer edges but it is not distracting. The case has seen some polishing but the lugs remain even in proportion and the hallmarks remain clearly visible. We could not be more thrilled to offer this truly seldom seen gem in the shop and with a fresh service its ready to enjoy for years to come.
