Patek Philippe - Patek Philippe Calatrava 3440J

The Patek Philippe Calatrava stands as a testament to one of the most esteemed watch designs from the 20th century, with its origins dating back to the 1930s, commencing with the iconic ref. 96. Introduced in 1961, the ref. 3440 has remained relatively under the radar despite its notable attributes: an automatic movement, a water-resistant screw-down caseback, a balanced dial layout, a prominent “PP” crown, and a bold case design. Crafted in yellow gold with a 34.5mm diameter, this model is easily identified by its silver dial and the distinctive “triple” index at 12 o’clock. Inside the caseback, the hallmark clé de Genève no. 4 identifies the work of renowned case maker Antoine Gerlach, famed for producing the first precious metal cases for the Calatrava ref. 96 as well as those for the “Padellone” ref. 3448.

This example has remained in nice vintage condition. The dial shows a prominent raised enamel signature and no distracting wear to the naked eye. The case has some honest signs of use but retains nice hallmarks. For anyone looking for a beautiful "true vintage" Patek, this Calatrava would make for a very practical addition.
