Patek Philippe - Patek Philippe Calatrava 96J
The Patek Philippe Calatrava stands as a testament to one of the most esteemed watch designs from the 20th century, with its origins dating back to the 1930s, commencing with the iconic ref. 96. Many collectors consider the 96 to be the blueprint dress watch as it influenced countless other designs to follow it within Patek and other brands' offerings. Although its case is just 30.5mm these pieces are are deceptive to many and wear larger than one might expect, due to their long lug architecture. Any "true vintage" Patek will have a charm and aura to it that simply can't be replicated in later iterations and the 96 feels all the more special being the first of its kind.
This particular example is cased in yellow gold and remains in beautiful vintage condition. The dial has some small age marks but they are not distracting and it is very well preserved overall for its age. The case has seen some polishing in the past but has even lugs and still displays its hallmarks clearly. If you've been looking to get into a nice example of a 96 at a fair price, this piece feels honest and has all the "wabi-sabi" one could hope for in a Patek from this era.
