Chopard - Rare Asymmetric | 18k Yellow Gold | Limited Edition
This story begins in the shadows of rebellion. In the 1950s, Longines dared to challenge convention with a watch that seemed to melt under the weight of its defiance and which holds pride of place in our personal collection. Nearly a decade later, Cartier followed with the “Crash”, born, as legend has it, from the mangled remains of a timepiece in a car accident.
These sparks ignited a flame that would burn through the decades. All three trinity brands also ventured into the realm of asymmetric dress watches in the mid-20th century, and today, modernists lare breathing new life into this trend through creations that are sculptures as much as they are timekeepers.
With a unique, hand-hammered case forged in 18k gold and shaped like the letter C, this asymmetric Chopard, purchased in 1970s London, carries with it the spirit of a city that pulsed with creativity. Much like the coveted Cartier London references, this is a hallmark of the same avant-garde energy, just even rarer and much less known.
Man’s obsession with shape is eternal. It is why we see faces in the moon, poetry in the curve of a wave, and wonder in a watch that dares to deviate. And this Chopard is a perfect reminder that beauty lies not in perfection but in the courage to be different.
