Patek Philippe - Rare Nautilus | Factory Diamonds | 18k Gold | Ref 3800
The Nautilus, Patek’s undisputed flagship, has always been a study in contradictions: born sporty, raised royal, a design that sails between precision and romance.
Here the tide turns rarer still: Six are believed to exist with the factory diamond edge bezel and factory diamond dial, and only one of very few; including this specific example, with a black date making it the rarest in the series.
In a world suddenly enthralled by smaller proportions; a.k.a the Cartier effect; the 37.5mm 3800 is coveted, confident and in gold, pure perfection. This one also wears much larger, the diamond-edged bezel acting like a halo of light that visually expands the case; I’ve lost count of the many who swear it’s a 3700, then lean in and fall quiet.
Diamonds add narrative. They elevate this watch from excellent to extraordinary, from rare to fable. This timepiece is in excellent condition and also accompanied by an Extract from the Archives that explicitly cites its diamond edge bezel and the diamond dial, establishing credibility.
The Nautilus began as an idea of freedom, a porthole thrown open to new water; in this form, with gold for muscle and diamonds for myth, it becomes the rarest kind of freedom; the kind you can fasten to your wrist and carry into the light.
