Vacheron Constantin - Rare Rectangular Tank 18k Gold | 1930s | Limited Production

Vacheron's early embrace of the Tonneau form, as far back as 1912, was deliberate, and became synonymous with the Maison’s identity. The Art Deco era further amplified this, as the boundaries of watch design were not merely pushed, but shattered.

The 1919–1921 "American" watch stands as a good example, arguably one of Vacheron's most elegant creations. The remarkable partnership with Verger Frères soon followed, and birthed extraordinary creations like the famed shutter watches, which still echoes in Vacheron’s aesthetic language today.

From the heart of that very 1930s Art Deco era, when Vacheron’s creative spirit soared, emerges a watch unlike any we have ever encountered.

This long rectangular curvex tank, meticulously crafted from 18k gold, features sculpted lugs of almost architectural precision. The specific confluence of form is a rarity from, the case profile evoking the refined elegance of celebrated Rolex Prince references and certain Patek Philippe models of the same vintage.

For a timepiece approaching its centenary, the condition is nothing short of excellent. The sector dial, with honest patina, remains unrestored, presenting itself as originally intended. A delicate, crisp hallmark on its case flank affirms its authenticity and also the meticulous preservation.
