Rolex - Rolex Air King 5500 w/Grey Dial

The Rolex Air King is arguably one of the most undervalued models in the brand's lineup. At 34mm, the 14000 reference is often overlooked for larger case sizes but as the market evolves, its clear that smaller pieces are becoming more acceptable, and for good reason. This smaller Oyster case has been worn for decades past and perhaps most notably on the wrist of Ryan Gosling in recent years. Its fair to say that it looks elegant on an average sized wrist and the collector community is becoming more open to slimmer designs in favor of the less bulky.

This particular 221X serial example, circa 1970 houses a desirable grey dial. It has remained in good vintage condition with a well-preserved dial and case that retains evenly proportioned lugs. The hands are luminova service replacements but are matching and their lume is functional as a result. The bracelet was replaced with a later one from 2002 but remains tight, retains 11 links and will fit an approximate 7 inch wrist. For anyone looking to get into a well priced Rolex that serves as a daily driver, this piece is understated and highly versatile.

Dial: Is excellent with no distracting wear. There is a bit of lume degradation at 10-oclock. Presents very well to the naked eye. Bezel: Remains sharp with no distracting wear. Hands: Are matching and luminova service replacements.
Case: Normal signs of use consistent with age. The lugs remain even in proportion. Correct signed crown.
Bracelet: Is a later 78350 with DT4 code from 2002. It remains tight, retains 11 links and will fit an approximate 7 inch wrist.
Crystal: Has a scuff that was buffed on the outer right edge. Otherwise clear and no cracks.
