Rolex - Rolex Date 1500 w/ Purple "Tropical" Dial - Box & Papers
The Rolex Date (34mm) is undoubtedly discussed less than its 36mm siblings; the now iconic Datejust and Day-Date. That doesn't mean the model should be overlooked however and we'd argue that the slightly smaller dimensions feel even more elegant on wrist.
This particular 512X serial example, circa 1977 is a rare find in that it is so well documented. The watch comes with its box, warranty papers, as well as service papers and original purchase receipt, all from the same Authorized dealer; Klarlund in Denmark. To boot this watch has a tropical dial that has faded from blue to a gorgeous purple hue. The dial has honest wear throughout but it reads well to the naked eye and offers immense character. The case is in good vintage condition. The bracelet is a later service replacement with medium to light stretch and will fit an approximate 8 inch wrist. If you've been looking for a unique Rolex that tells its own story, this piece offers fantastic provenance.
Dial: Has honest wear, especially near its indices which is common to see in this era. Originally blue, the dial has taken on a gorgeous purple tropical color which is almost perfectly imperfect to the naked eye. All of the tritium plots have aged to a nice even color and are present/full.
Bezel: Normal signs of use consistent with age. Hands: Are matching and all of their lume is stable. Case: Light signs of polishing. The bottom right lug is skinner than the other 3 lugs. This could be amended during the next polish by trimming down the others or adding metal to the one lug. Overall, solid for its age. Correct signed crown.
Bracelet: Is a service replacement with medium to light stretch and 13 links. Will fit an approximate 8 inch wrist.
Crystal: Light wear that can be buffed off. No chips or cracks.
Accessories: Box, warranty papers, service papers, original purchase receipt, wallet and calendar.
The movement is running well on our timegrapher and comes with our 1-year mechanical warranty.
