Rolex - Rolex Datejust 18K Lapis Dial Unpolished Ref. 1601, 1975
This is probably one of the best examples of a rare 18K Rolex Datejust reference 1601 with Lapis stone dial. Stone dials on Rolex watches mostly appear in 5-digit Day Date references, none of them are known to ever have been fitted into 4-digit Day Date references.
The only 36mm reference fitted with a stone dial is the 1601 and like on the Day Date examples, the stone dials were only fitted in precious metal cases. The watch dates to 1975 and is in absolute incredible condition. The case is unpolished with strong and well defined lugs showing beautiful factory finish.
The fluted bezel is also retained without any major wear.
The full length bracelet is in very good condition and matching to the case, its hard to believe that its almost 50 years old. The main highlight is without a doubt the dial. The original Lapis dial is in excellent condition, not showing any wear from age. The surface is immaculate and free of any chips, hairlines or cracks. This particular Lapis dial is the most beautiful we have ever seen.
The dark blue color paired with the brighter portions and gold sparkles is mesmerizing and makes you think of the blue Sky.
The gold graphics are perfect and don't show any imperfections. It also still has the original no lume hands. Stone dial Datejusts have gained a lot of popularity in the past years and appreciation for having a sleeker look than the Day Date, simply showing 'more stone'. Again, the watch is stunning and positions itself among the best examples out there.
Case: Excellent unpolished case that remains in mint condition and does not show much wear from age. The lugs still show factory finish, the fluted bezel is free of any major wear. Case numbers are clear and fully intact
