Rolex - Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz Buckley Dial Ref. 17000, 1979

Buckley Dial

With a total production run of about 25 years ranging from 1977 till about 2002 it is one which holds significant historical importance. It was Rolex's answer to the Quartz Crisis in the 1970s when most watch brands were adding Quartz watches to their collections. It is rumored that the finishing on the Oysterquartz movements was done at even higher standard than their automatic movements. The total production seems to have not surpassed the 25000 mark which is a very small number when it comes to Rolex watches.

Here is a very cool example with the Buckley dial, which stands out because of its painted Roman numerals rather than applied ones. The watch also retains the original black hands that match the dial which is very unusual as they are mostly replaced with silver hands in the course of a service. The coronet on the dial is in gold which is very unusual for a stainless steel 17000 however was occasionly sold this way in the Middle East.

A great watch that doesn't break the bank and looks great on the wrist.
