Racing Green

In the 1970s Rolex introduced the Stella dial, a lacquered and highly glossy dial which came in a rainbow of colors. These were reserved for Day Date and some ladies references and we believe they have been produced up to the mid 1990s. In the 1970s the world wasn't ready for these vibrant, loud and bold colors but for sure we are today. Stella dials come in a wide range of colors including Oxblood, Blue, Green, Turquoise, Peach, Seafoam, Red, Orange, Lilac and Yellow. From the late 1980s up to the mid 1990s there was a new color added to the Stella dials, the dark green, we call it the British Racing Green, we assume that was tha last generation of Stella dials.

The watch offered here is a 1994 Rolex Day Date reference 18248 bearing the so-called Bark finish on the bezel and bracelet center links. The finishing reminds us of the skin of a tree and seems to have been meticulously applied by hand. The dial is a British Racing green Stella, a green that is very different to the green used in the 1970s and early 1980s. The lacquer is glossy and beautifully complementing the 10 diamonds on the dial. The condition of the dial is flawless, retaining all original luminous dots and matching hands.

The watch is overall in mint condition retaining sharp edges and a prominent Bark finish. The gold has patina'd to a rosy hue over time giving the watch a beautiful warm color. A well retained Day Date with a dial that you wont see that often, the dark green Stella has only been produced for a very short period.

Case: Excellent 18K gold case with Bark finish bezel. The gold has obtained a rosy patina from storage. The lugs remain very strong with healthy proportions and sharp edges. The Bark finish bezel is very sharp showing perfect ridges and finish. Case numbers are crisp and clear.
Bracelet/Strap: Excellet matching Bark president bracelet showing a rosy patina on the gold material. The bracelet only shows minimal stretch from wear.
Dial: Excellent and very rare flawless Racing green Stella dial with Diamond indexes and correct T Swiss Made T designation at 6 o'clock.
