Rolex - Rolex Explorer 1016 Mk3 - Service Papers From True Patina - *Unpolished*
The Rolex Explorer was first introduced in 1953 and is notable for its association with adventure. The design emphasizes durability, reliability, and legibility in extreme conditions. It features a beautifully simple and balanced dial, luminous hour markers, and a robust stainless steel case. The watch is also equipped with Rolex's patented Oyster case technology, which provides exceptional water resistance and protection from dust and other environmental hazards. The Explorer has been worn on notable expeditions and adventures and has become a symbol of Rolex's commitment to quality and reliability in extreme conditions, and has earned a top spot in the list of Rolex's iconic models. The ref. 1016 was the longest running in the model line ('60-'89) and is coveted by collectors today for its pure design. Of all vintage Rolex, it might just be their most beautiful no-frills creation.
This particular 408X serial example, circa 1975 features an incredibly well-preserved mk3 dial and hand set that appear mint under magnification. All of the tritium has aged cleanly and evenly to an attractive buttermilk tone. To boot, the case of this piece is completely unpolished, as is the bracelet which remains very tight for its age. It was also just fully serviced by True Patina in February of '24 and will be delivered with the service invoice. Finding top quality 1016s has clearly become a challenge in recent years, especially in unpolished condition and we couldn't be more thrilled to offer this true collector grade example to its next custodian.
