Rolex - Rolex Explorer 1016 w/ MK1 "Frog Foot" Dial & Striking Patina

The Rolex Explorer was first introduced in 1953 and is notable for its association with adventure. The design emphasizes durability, reliability, and legibility in extreme conditions. It features a beautifully simple and balanced dial, luminous hour markers, and a robust stainless steel case. The watch is also equipped with Rolex's patented Oyster case technology, which provides exceptional water resistance and protection from dust and other environmental hazards. The Explorer has been worn on notable expeditions and adventures and has become a symbol of Rolex's commitment to quality and reliability in extreme conditions, and has earned a top spot in the list of Rolex's iconic models. The ref. 1016 was the longest running in the model line ('60-'89) and is coveted by collectors today for its pure design. Of all vintage Rolex, it might just be their most beautiful no-frills creation.

This particular 167X serial example, circa 1967 is a first year matte iteration with MK1 "Frog Foot" dial. Collectors affectionately refer to this dial as such due to the Rolex logo in this era resembling just that. This piece boasts a spectacular and mint dial/hand set that have taken on a warm and golden khaki hue in their tritium patina. The case is also in excellent vintage condition with thick and even lugs and the bracelet is correct for this era with light stretch. Finding top condition 1016s is surely becoming more difficult each year and we're truly thrilled to offer this piece, fit for collectors of any level.

Dial: Is a spectacular MK1 "Frog Foot" in mint condition. The tritium lume plots are all present, full and have aged to a highly attractive and warm yellow/khaki color.
Bezel: Sharp with no notable blemishes.
Hands: Are mint and display beautiful matching patina with no cracking.
Case: Excellent overall. The lugs are thick and even in proportion. Normal signs of use consistent with age. Correct signed crown.
Bracelet: Is correct for MK1. Displays light stretch. We have resources to rebuild these bracelets to bring them close to factory spec at a reasonable cost.
Crystal: Is a new True Dome for added piece of mind and clarity to enjoy the dial.
