Rolex - Rolex Oyster Veriflat Ref. 6512, 1955
Veriflat
The name of this model says it all. The Rolex Veriflat Ref. 6512 is a remarkable and rare model that stands out in Rolex's history as the brand's thinnest Oyster-cased watch. Produced between the mid-1950s and early 1960s, the Veriflat was Rolex's foray into the ultra-thin dress watch market, combining elegance with the robustness of the Oyster case.
With a case thickness of only 8mm the Veriflat holds a special place in the brand’s legacy constantly pushing for extreme achievements. Veriflat models are extremely rare, to our knowledge there were only a couple of hundred examples made and exclusively in precious metals such as yellow and rose gold.
The example offered here is a pristine Veriflat manufactured in 1955. The case is in yellow gold and measures 34mm diameter, a great dress watch size, especially coming in with the slim silhouette of the watch. The condition of the case is incredible, hard to believe that this watch is almost 70 years old. It only shows very light wear from age, consideriung what we can see, the watch has probably been worn on some occasions only. Further the case back sticker is fully present and still has the crown motif on it. Something that usually fades and deteriorates if the watch has been on the wrist for long.
The dial is Silver with very interestingly recessed baton indexes and coronet, a feature that has only been rarely seen at Rolex, sometimes a few Bubblebacks we have seen feature the same style of dial. Even the luminous dots, which are original and mostly present, are recessed with the indexes. The present dial is a rare example lacking the Veriflat caption that is usually found under the coronet. Instead the Chronometer Certification is positioned under the crown at 12 o clock, a feature that is also seldom seen at Rolex. The bold Dauphine hands beautifully match the style of the indexes and stand out with the original luminous material.
This fantastic Veriflat comes on its brown Rolex calf strap with original pin buckle, perhaps this is the strap the watch was delivered 70 years ago. The fact that this watch hasn’t seen much wrist time helped retaining the strap and buckle for sure.
A great dress watch, full of Rolex history and with a great vibe of the 1950s.
