Rolex - Rolex Submariner 16800 w/Striking Yellow Patina

The Rolex Submariner was first introduced by Rolex in 1953 and is notable for being one of the first watches specifically designed for diving. Beyond its technical capabilities, the Submariner has become an icon in the world of watches, with a timeless design that has remained largely unchanged since its introduction. It is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential watches of all time, and has become a symbol of Rolex's reputation for quality, durability, and precision. The Sub has been worn by everyone from professional divers and military personnel to Hollywood celebrities and heads of state, cementing its place in the pantheon of iconic watches.

The ref. 16800 is a "transitional" era for the Sub as it housed the very last of the matte dials carried on from the ref. 1680. What makes this ref. more unique and neo-vintage is the presence of a sapphire crystal, which for some makes it the best of both worlds. This particular example, circa '83 is at the tail end of this period which only lasted for a couple of years. It remains in excellent vintage condition with a truly mint dial, offering a striking and highly attractive yellow patina, matching the hands and a darker "pumpkin" bezel pip. The insert is nicely preserved and has remained quite dark which helps the tritium (and star of the show in this piece) stand out. The case has also remained thick with some of the original chamfers still visible. The bracelet is very tight, retains 12 links and will fit an approximate 7.75-inch wrist. For anyone looking for a beautiful vintage Sub to wear regularly, this is a very usable option, providing ample smiles per mile.

Dial: Displays stunning preservation and color. All of the tritium plots have aged cleanly and evenly to a highly attractive yellow tone. No notable blemishes under magnification.
Bezel insert: Has normal signs of use consistent with age. There are some light scuffs but nothing distracting. The lume pip is still intact and has a fantastic pumpkin patina.
Hands: Are matching and their lume is stable. Case: The lugs remain thick with some of the original chamfers still visible. Light sigs of use overall. Correct signed crown.
Bracelet: Correct 93150 retaining 12 links. Remains very tight and shows a strong coronet. Will fit an approximate 7.75 inch wrist.
Crystal: Clear.
