Rolex - Rolex Texano Beta 21 Ref. 5100, 1970
Only Texan oil billionaires could afford the Beta 5100, giving this rare Rolex watch its nickname. The Beta 5100, one of the rarest serial production Rolex watches, had a limited run of 1,000 pieces—900 in yellow gold and 100 in white gold, each individually numbered. Launched in 1970, it was Rolex's first quartz watch and the first to feature a sapphire crystal.
This opulent timepiece, the most expensive Rolex at the time, had a 40mm solid gold case and a uniquely designed bracelet. Discontinued in 1972 due to low demand, its initial launch pieces sold out in 1970. The high cost was due to its gold and new quartz technology. This example, in excellent condition, retains a sharp case, a long bracelet, and an original Tritium dial and hands.
The Texano remains a striking piece of Rolex history.
