Rolex - VERY RARE* 1948 Rolex Bombé Oyster Perpetual | OCC Gilt Dial - Chapter Ring | Ref. 5018 | Applied Logo and Crown

We are pleased to present this exceptional piece, possibly unique in its configuration. It features a black dial, chapter ring, applied logo, and crown, all housed in an unpolished steel case with Bombé lugs.

Featuring a stunning Gilt black dial with applied markers, indices, and logo, this watch bears the "Officially Certified Chronometer" (OCC) text, a predecessor to today’s "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" (SCOC) designation. It’s a remarkable timepiece, offering a glimpse into an earlier era of chronometric excellence.

In the late 1940s, Rolex unveiled a unique Oyster Perpetual model, characterized by its gracefully arched lugs. Collectors have since fondly dubbed these models "Rolex Bombé" or "Bombay" in the Americas, inspired by the lugs' distinct, twisted with rounded shape. While this term isn’t official, it has become a beloved reference among enthusiasts.

This piece remains in its original unpolished state, preserving all its lines and contours. The dial is in authentic condition, showcasing a striking deep black with applied gold crown, logo, and markers. There are a few minor hairline scratches and a slight loss of text at the end of "perpetual".

The minute hand and plot markers had previously lost a small amount of their radium, but they have been meticulously restored with period-correct radium lume.

The watch has just been serviced and keeps great time.
The amplitude is 210°, the Rate +1s/d and Bear Error 1.4ms.
