Vulcain - Vulcain Cricket "Waterprotected" Alarm w/ Military Markings - *Unpolished*
The Swiss luxury watchmaker Vulcain was founded in 1858 and is arguably the brand to own when it comes to alarm pieces. They have a rich history and are best known today for their connection to U.S. presidents. In 1948 President Harry S. Truman was gifted a “Cricket” alarm by the White House Press Photographers Association, which he wore regularly. Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson Dwight D. Eisenhower were also known to love the alarm watch’s practically. Johnson so much so that he gave away 200 of them as gifts. This incredible story carried into modern times with President Obama being given one post inauguration.
This particular Cricket features a gorgeous grey sunburst dial and a razor sharp case. For those who appreciate military history, it also boasts what appear to be British or Canadian military engravings on the caseback. Based on our research, we believe this piece saw wrist time with an officer ranking (or higher) personnel. If you’re looking for an amazing Cricket example, this piece remains in stunning shape and offers a truly unique package.
Dial: Beautifully aged tritium lume plots. The 3-o-clock plot is mostly gone but the rest remain full and have an even custard color. No significant marks on the dial under magnification to note of. Hands: Are matching. All of their tritium lume is stable.
Case: Appears unpolished with very sharp original chamfers. Etchings on back are still deep and clearly visible. Correct pusher and signed crown. Crystal: Clear.
Accessories: “Frog Skin” camouflage strap from PEPLOR. This a high end strap which utilizes “dead stock” vintage camo.
All functions of the watch operate flawlessly. The movement is running well on our timegrapher and comes with our 1-year mechanical warranty.
